Golden Age Assisted Living
Introducing a new and innovative concept of providing assisted living for senior residents living in Illinois. A concept that has been embraced by most of the country for years, but has sorely been lacking here in Illinois. A new approach for rendering assisted living services in the most appropriate environment. With this in mind, why should advanced age or declining health interfere with this comfortable way of life?

The answer is, that it shouldn't. And it doesn't have to any longer. We now offer assisted living services in the comfort and convenience of a single family home, while under the watchful care of trained professionals. We have eliminated the hustle and bustle, the confusion and intimidation, of living in a large institutional facility, and have established small residential style homes that provide care on a truly personal basis.

Gone are the long hallways, daunting elevators, large crowds of strangers, all of which are inherent in commercial institutions. Instead of living on a busy street overlooking a parking lot, we are nestled in quiet residential neighborhoods that feature manicured back yards.

About Us
Report
Golden Age started as a family owned establishment in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1970's.
In 1985, we opened our first facility in Illinois.
While it might come as somewhat of a surprise, the term "assisted living" had not yet been implemented or designated by the State of Illinois, and due to a lack of viable alternatives, many elderly individuals with even just minor physical limitations, were placed in nursing homes.
Realizing that this was a tremendous dis-service to such seniors, we decided to offer assisted living type services in facilities that were not nursing homes.

It is a well-kept secret that many, if not most, assisted living facilities have adopted a menu-driven fee schedule.
They start with a base fee that covers room and board, and may include a rudimentary supervision protocol.
Many include some type of entertainment as a bonus.
Anything above that could be, and usually is, extra.
Extra fees for assistance with dressing and bathing.
Extra fees for escorting you to the dining room or being served in your room.
Extra fees for wellness checks that exceed the monitoring process.

Until well into the 1980's, the only viable option available for seniors needing assistance with activities of daily living, such as reminders to take medications and assistance with bathing, was a nursing home.
Unless they had a willing family member to take care of them.
Since then, things have improved considerably, and a senior now has other options.
1. Care for a loved one provided by a member of the family while residing in their own home.
This remains to be a tried-and-tried again method.

I have been looking for a place for my mother for well over 4 months and have toured several medium to large facilities.
They all seemed nice, but felt like busy, institutional facilities.
I have since visited Golden Age Assisted Living, and really liked their concept.
It felt like a regular single family home that was staffed by professional caregivers.
It is perfect for someone who does not like the feeling of living in a hotel.
Plus the cost was very reasonable.
The only thing that I was not crazy about was the size of the bedrooms.
